Des leaves his unique mark in Colac and the District as a true gentleman with a quiet but noble quality who enjoyed spending spend time with others and understanding their story. He believed that the spoken word or a handshake was as good as a contract.
His life was consistent with these values centred around his beloved family, his Celtic faith, sport, community, and travel. His legacy is one of integrity – always a gentleman, and, always kind of heart..
He has been a support to us and a friend over many long years, as well as a dearly respected cousin. Our heartfelt prayers go out to his family, and to his Mahoney siblings who hold a special place in our hearts.
As his song is now sung into sunset of the western sky, we say goodbye with words our ancients would say:
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rain fall softly upon your fields until we meet again,
And may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

Dad,
I struggle to comprehend life without you, that cheeky grin, that spontaneous whistling or singing, the passionate barracking for the ‘pies, watching the horses on the tele’, and Western movies …oh can’t forget of course ROTFL at any Peter Sellers movies.Thank you for your love and support, and for all the special things both you and mum did.
Rest peacefully with Mum
Love. Justin (George) -
Our family and business life was blessed when Des came into to it. Des you worked for us and loved us like we were your own. You supported us in every way when times were good and bad. You even baby sat our children and they loved it and you. Words will never be enough. Des often said “when I go I’d like someone to say Des Mahoney, not a bad poor bugger.” However we’d say, “Des Mahoney you are rich in all the ways that count, one of the finest men we know.”
Our love goes out to all of the Mahoney Clan. Kindest regards. Chris, Therese, Gemma and Ryan Quinn

Dad, you were a man of great character, wit and wisdom and enjoyed your very Irish sense of humour, and joy at watching you laugh at any Peter Sellers movie. You were a tower of strength in our family where family was central in your life from your formative years to latter years. I remember your selflessness in taking me to as many Fitzroy games as a kid when your heart must have been aching for the Pies. But those selfless and humble traits always shone through to all family, friend or stranger alike.
May you and Mum now rest in peace together. Life just isn’t the same without you both.
Love your son Ash, daughter in law Shelley and Grandson Lachie -

Good-Bye Uncle Des. The world is a poorer place without you. Andrea, Carl, Tarquin, Justin, Simone, Ashley and Timothy, we are sure you feel blessed to have called Uncle Des, Dad. Thinking of you all. We know Uncle Des has found where the Four Leaved Clovers grow.
The Four Leaved Clover by Ella Higginson’s
I know a place where the sun is like gold,
And the cherry blossoms burst with snow,
And down underneath is the loveliest nook
Where the four-leaf clovers grow. One leaf is for hope, and one is for faith,
And one is for love, you know,
And God put another in for luck
If you search you will find where they grow. But you must have hope, and you must have faith,
You must love and be strong,—and so—
If you work, if you wait, you will find the place
Where the four-leaf clovers grow.Love the Fleming cousins Paula, Tammy, Jeremy (dec) and Anna

Dad, I am proud to call you my father and teacher in life. I’m sure I tested your patience on many occasions to only make you proud. You instilled our family with lots of love, laughter, theatrics and wisdom. Your sense of humour and quick wit will always be remembered and a trait I can proudly say I have inherited. You have grown your wings and reunited with Mum where you can both keep guiding us through life. You will be missed and never forgotten – we now have to learn to live without you both by our side but in spirit.
Always your little girl xx
