  5. I first met Joy over 30 years ago when I started with CSIRO in Port Melbourne. Not only was Joy a brilliant scientist, a trail blazer for women but kind, friendly and always available for a chat or discussion. Joy and I had many conversations both at work and when we “bumped” into each other at the local shops. A truly lovely lady and friend who will be greatly missed.

  6. Joy was such a remarkable person, a pioneer in science, a pioneering woman, a graceful and beautiful soul. I was so privileged to have Joy as my first boss from 1969-71 at CSIRO in Port Melbourne. We are so grateful for the friendship of Joy and Jean over five decades. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

  7. Joy was such a kind and thoughtful lady. In her last few years at CSIRO I had the pleasure of getting to know her when she would come by reception for a chat and bring morning tea from the canteen to share with me. She would always remember my birthday and bring me a gift. One day she came to see me with a pair of cotton gloves and said they would protect my hands from the sun while driving, just one of the many ways she showed how thoughtful she was. When I was in hospital after giving birth to my daughter she came to visit us. I’ve told my daughter about Joy’s work at CSIRO and she was fascinated to hear about petrichor. She want’s to be a scientist too. May Joy’s memory live on always.

  11. Thank you for offering this facility. I was sorry that my commitments here in Wagga Wagga prevented me from attending Joy’s funeral. But I was glad that our branch of the family was represented by my sister Bronwyn. (We are offspring of Joy’s cousin Barbara.) And I am very grateful to be able to follow the service here. It is an excellent tribute to a lady whose life was full of achievement and example.
