  13. I knew Derry from our school days at Colac High School, he was a few years ahead of me. Derry was persuaded to play football. Tall, awkward and jovial Derry endeared himself to his House teammates. After leaving school Derry acquired a Toyota Crown coupe, which seemed an unusual choice and quite a talking point amongst his contemporaries.

Some years ago, travelling from Queensland I had stopped at Coonabarabran one evening. Found a café, and Derry was there. We recognised each other and Derry insisted we share a table. We reminisced about school days and offered our opinions on a range of subjects. It was April 1972, the last time I saw Derry, yet I remember it clearly.

    Vale Derry, rest peacefully.

  17. Derry was one of those guys – always friendly, always helpful, always positive. Remember him as a mechanic with crazy Martin FitzGerald and the wild crew on pea viners at Wattie Pict. Fun times they were. Condolences to all the family. Cheers Derry.
