  32. I only met Gwenda about 3 years ago. She was driving through my street as I was mowing my lawn, turned around and came back, stopped in the middle of the road and beckoned me to her. I asked her if I could help with anything and she said she just wanted to tell me how impressed she was to see a woman mowing so much lawn! She proceeded to explain to me that the house I was living in was built by her father. I stood in the road, listening to her stories about the house, answering her questions about which fixtures were still in it, and me asking her so many questions about the history of the Art Deco abode, her telling me her family history all while cars went around her, many of them waving in recognition. We became instant friends. I saw her a number of times after that, always enjoying bumping into her and picking her brains for more stories about the house. She was most keen to come in and see inside, and I often invited her to do so, but it never eventuated. So it was with sadness that I recently found out she had passed without getting to see inside her old childhood home. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. She had presence, was strong willed, funny and always a picture of sartorial refinement. She will be missed.
