  6. Merryl, Janny and David -
My heart is full as I think of your mum, dearest, dearest Val.
How much she will be missed! The Bay will not be the same without her.

So many treasured memories over decades do I and our family have, of Val's generosity, hospitality, love and friendship, of laughs and sorrows shared.
Uncomplaining, living life to the full and living out the fruits of the Holy Spirit, Val was one in a million, and more.

    May she rest in peace.

  8. To Val’s family.
Thinking of you all at this very sad time. Val was an amazing lady. I enjoyed my visits with her here and there. She had some fantastic stories. She once told me, at the age of 96, that she had just bought her very first smart phone so she could keep in touch with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.

  10. Val was a wonderful, generous and most considerate person that we'd ever had the privilege of knowing. Many happy memories of Val for sixty years, especially camping out in her back yard whilst on holidays. Val's friendship was invaluable to our parents, Tom and Doreen, when they arrived in the Otways in the 1950s. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Our sincere condolences to David, Janny and Merryl and their families.

  16. I had the deep privilege to get to know Val better after the passing of her close friend and my grandmother, Barbara Leorke, in 2022. I’ll always cherish my conversations with Val over tea and nut loaf, which were sometimes about the past, but very often about the present and future. Val was deeply engaged and committed to making the world a better place and she had an irrepressible passion for community, kin and strangers alike. It’s unimaginable that she went so suddenly, but so many will remember her warmth, love and generosity for decades to come.

  32. At Apollo Bay Golf Club, we regard Val as one of our legends. 17 times champion, Captain and all round supporter, Val is an outstanding ambassador for golf and humanity.

In the recent June Tournament 2025, Val provided sponsorship in her own name. She turned up to support the Ladies in their competitions as she did every year. She was a wonderful human being, caring, loving and supportive.

Val celebrated her 100th birthday at the Clubhouse in December last year; and she was featured in the Club’s Centenary Film, “100 years on the Green” (YouTube). We shall miss her cheery personality around the Club, and her always positive outlook on the Club and on life.

Rest in peace, Val. Love & best wishes from all at Apollo Bay Golf Club.
