  1. Deepest sympathy to Mary’s family,
But a huge thank you to Mary for sticking with the Colac Herald and in turn having the confidence in the people of the Colac and district community in not selling the paper after Frank’s passing. We owe you a great debt of gratitude.
A lovely lady now at peace.

  6. Mary Bourke fed me bacon morning lunch and dinner. My mother, Anne Macpherson and Mary were best friends and she asked Mary to look after me whilst she and my father rushed to Melbourne with my younger sister for emergency eye surgery. Mum said as she jumped in the car to Mary (who wasn’t a cook at the time), “she doesnt eat much but she loves bacon.” I thought she was the best baby sitter ever!
Whenever Mary came to town (Yarrawonga) Mum was so excited. She’d often stay a few nights and they would drink red wine and smoke many cigarettes and they would talk till dawn. Mary was a house hold name and I grew up always interested in her life that she so embraced. My sincere condolonces to the family. I know she will be so very sadly missed.
