My deepest sympathy to you all during this time of heartbreaking tragedy. I was anguished to hear news of Brendan’s passing even though I never had the privilege of meeting him (having left Melbourne in 1972). My brother, Ronnie Paynter, was taken from us at 21 years of age and I fully understand the permanent pain that is left by such events. I recall one of his best friends was “John Hutton” and now your own family is facing such a dark time in your lives. May God’s love be a special comfort to you at this time. “Ever He walketh beside me, Brightly His sunshine appears – spreading a beautiful rainbow over the valley of tears”.

It is so hard to grasp
That our friends life has passed
With a mate who has answered deaths call
And their hearts full of pain
It will ne’er be the same
For those who were closest of all
All the freinds that he knew
Have their hearts torn in two
For a mate who has crossed to the shore
Our tears will flow free
In our minds we will see
Brendan brightening our dull says once more
