Charlie touched the hearts of so many people. ❤️
He was such a big part of my hockey journey growing up, especially through playing Senior Country Week. He was one of those genuinely happy, humble people who was such a joy to be around, and the kind of person who left an impact on everyone he met.
I’ll forever cherish your birthday messages and the support you showed me throughout my hockey career, even after we hadn’t seen each other for years. It meant more than you probably ever realised.
Rest easy, Charlie. You’ll be missed dearly. 🕊️❤️

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and guiding not only me but many more in the hockey world. We always had our "5 min" chats... I don't think you knew what a short chat meant....you were always there when I needed answers, the answers where never short but always ended up with a short recap and all the covers actions in between. I am sure you are already organising things up there you won't be able to help yourself.. take care and will miss you in the hockey world my friend.

I have not seen Charlie for 3 decades but I fondly remember him as the face and heart of the Winchelsea Hockey Club. When I arrived in Colac and was looking for a hockey club, Charlie's name was given to me. I contacted him and loved my time playing with Winchelsea. He was the glue that kept the Club ticking over for the many years I played with them. I remember him as a very social person and a kind and commited family man. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

What to say to the family of a person who helped shaped the person I am today, who held so much influence over so many people and was so loved, appreciated and adored that a tribute wouldn't do it justice?
I had the fortune of meeting Charlie through hockey, like many others, so many years ago. He was one of the first umpire coaches I had the pleasure of working with, someone who was instrumental in helping me build the confidence and backbone I have to this day on the pitch. Charlie's legacy will live on through the countless people he has helped and guided over the years, from the smallest compliment, through to the feedback that he provided to a young upstart.
To Bev, Jim, Ben and family - he will be missed, but he won't be forgotten.

To a man that made you feel like a mate. His presence made you feel valued, whether it was the first time or over the many the times you spoke or met with Charlie. Like many people I met Charlie through Hockey and his support, insight and love of the game shone through. Charlie will be missed by all. To his family I send my condolences and heartfelt hugs at this time and hope that today will be a fantastic celebration of the life and times of this remarkable man.

Charlie was very well known at Otway Medical Clinic. He knew staff by name and would “check in”, always bringing with him the most appreciated form of currency — a box of chocolates!
Charlie truly was one of our "Favorites."

I first met you a long time ago at my workplace, Colac Area Health and then again in the last few years at Otway Medical. You would always greet us all at the front desk with a smile and address us each by name. And then hand over a big box of Favourites chocolates.
You taught me to remember that life is a gift and to always be grateful.

Sometimes it can be a kind gesture done that we think what a wonderful person they are. A long while ago I was buying a Subway roll. When I went to pay the teller said the person in front paid for my roll and that he often did. Yes it was Charlie. We did get to meet Charlie in the supermarket. I thanked him. He spoke about his health and general things. Yes, what a wonderful person. Not forgotten.

Charlie, we cannot thank you enough for the time, kindness and support you gave to the Heart Foundation MyHeart MyLife Community.
Despite your own battles and struggles, you generously gave your time to support others, helping people remain positive and offering encouragement, understanding and advice when they needed it most. We also recognise and deeply appreciate the important work you did advocating for better access to defibrillators, helping to give people the best possible chance of survival.
There are few people who are willing to step forward and help others, particularly those they may never have met. Charlie, you showed extraordinary kindness to strangers, and your presence in our community reflected what it truly means to be a compassionate and caring human being.
You taught us to appreciate that life is a gift and to live it with all our heart. You spoke often and lovingly about the people closest to you and how much their love and support meant to you. You were an everyday person who made an extraordinary difference in the lives of so many.
Helping others was something that brought you great joy. You loved a good chat, always had a story to share, and brought warmth and connection to those around you.

I worked with Charlie many times during Federal, State and local elections. He was a great team member with a quiet, calm demeanour and a deep understanding of the processes involved (especially computers).
As a result of this association he gave me assistance with grant applications which were of great benefit to the Colac Golf Club.

The man you called husband, Dad and granddad - what an amazing legacy he has left for you all. Charlie’s kindness, his love of a game and the people he met along the way . A true gentleman that will be missed by so many and the memories he has given us all. He was a man that did so much for so many, and those that will never get to know him and what he has done for hockey across the state.
Touching so many lives without their knowledge, by helping every sporting club, each person he got behind and supported, gifted his time too, the kindness and sense of giving over and over asking so little in return.

Sincere and heartfelt Condolences to the Martin Family on your loss of Charlie. I also met Charlie through the FB group My Heart My Life Community and also became a Community Champion after reading some of Charlie's positive and caring posts,
He had such a lot of knowledge and was very passionate about helping others dealing with heart disease. His caring posts eased a lot of people's anxiety and gave them quite reassurance that lots could be done for them.
I will miss Charlie on our zoom chats every couple of months and l'm sure his uplifting posts will be missed.

You didn’t just teach me how to umpire hockey. You taught me so much more. You taught me how to back myself, how to make decisions with confidence, how to stay calm under pressure and, most importantly, how to believe in myself.
