We met only once Harry, but a person I will never forget. Trev has kept me up to speed on your movements since our meeting at Ev. And Trev's wedding without a doubt you go into the Local Legendary Character category. I will miss your stories passed on from Trev but I am sure there are many more to come which I look forward to hearing. Keep on peddling Harry , the good thing is it’s all down hill from up there, love Bags.

Harry was that person who enriched my life beyond comprehension at first. I'm sure he effected others the same way. He went further in life than most, beyond family and making a living which he did without fuss. I knew him through his cycling connection where he stands proudly on centre stage for me. A fierce competitor, a skilful adept, a rock of cycling and sporting life in the Western District. His mind as well as his body ranged through decades of activity so that chats we had together were rich, much more enlightening than most. He stands on a pedestal for me. Speaking at the launch of A Whirr of Many Wheels several years ago we recognised we were in the presence of a very special person. His presence in the district and the cycling world was as a rock around which other attached. Harry was his own man, distinctively Harry Salmon. That man Harry Salmon will sing to me in my mind's eye until the day I die. He will rest in peace for he has given so much to me and to others I am sure.

Dear Evelyn and family,
Even though we only met Harry a few times, it seemed like he had been part of our lives forever. Such an engaging man with a magnetic personality, loved a chat and took a genuine interest in everybody around him. Harry was the immensely proud Patriarch of the Salmon family whose legacy will endure. It is easy to see why he will be so sadly missed. Thinking of you and will always enjoy hearing the never ending stories of the great man's life.
Love from Kristin, Paul, Georgia, Liam and Regan

Harry, you are no longer with us, but geez you gave living a fair crack and whilst in the end it was your time it is hard to think that you will no longer be around to greet us with a smile and to show genuine interest in what we were doing when you asked
Such an inspirational role model on how to treat others with respect and a smile, and how to live life to the fullest
If there is one thing for sure is that the passing of such a great person should mean they are never forgotten and that certainly will not be the case with you Harry
Thanks for your time and inspiration, gone but will never be forgotten

The Colac Cycling Club extends it sympathy to all of Harry's extended family on the sad occasion of the passing of our esteemed life member.
He was of course a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather and he was also a great club member and a great contributor to cycling in the district over many years.
While it is a few years since he raced competitively his cycling record was also impressive.
There are few in Australia who could say they rode off the same mark and held their own against Russell Mockridge.
We all remember Harry as sometimes a spectator but more often a volunteer at many, many cycle races and in recent years as our lead car supremo with his sidekick Trevor. He was truly a person who never lost his love for the sport which he showed in many ways, including his support for the Salmon Family Shield in support of Junior cyclists.
He will be greatly missed but always fondly remembered whenever Colac Cycling Club members gather.
Tony Prytz, President
On behalf of the Colac Cycling Club Committee and membersSeptember 14, 2021 4:32 pm
