MacCOLL, Naomi (formerly Jones) (née Mitchell)

Print
Born on March 14, 1932. Passed away on May 5, 2022.

You lived unafraid to rise to a challenge and voice your opinion,
The strength of your gaze enough to quell the rabble.
An inquiring mind and wit, quick and sharp,
Revelled in literature, conversation and creative thought,
Reaching deeper to write from a well travelled life.
A lover of the arts, your talents many, given birth and nurtured in all of us,
And as your fierce flame dimmed, and your mind wandered,
You bathed us in the gentle glow of your love.
You live on in us.
Michael (dec), Janne, Gillian and families.

  1. Dear Naomi, you greeted me into your home when I was a very young woman who was so ‘demonstrably’ in love with your darling son Michael. From that time we had many lovely times together.

I particularly recall the wonderful meals you prepared and I was totally in awe of the artistic flair you had with food presentation. One Christmas you tasked me with preparing the salad!! You were so complimentary of my effort as you subtley transformed my tragic mess into a piece of culinary art by adding your magic touch with delicate celery curls and fans of avocado!! You also had rules, such as, though shall not break grapes from the bunch. Grapes must be cut with the delicate scissors provided!! It’s funny the little memories that come back after all those years.

Through you I learned to appreciate food, writing and art in its various forms, and although our times together diminished in more recent years, I still thought of you often.

As I reflect for this tribute I realise you significantly enhanced my life through just being You. Thank you special lady. Love always, Deborah xx
